i'm a student and i'm trying to think of a good idea for a website/online business type thing to earn a little money on the side… i was just curious as to what some of you have tried to find online, but haven't… like what is a need that people have and the site hasn't been created yet?

thanks!

Wow… the first question is "What do YOU like doing?"

Opportunities on the Internet are limitless, but basically they fall into a few broad categories :

- publish your own website and earn money from advertisers via pay-per-click contextual ads like Google Adsense, Infolinks etc.
- sell your own products – either physical or electronic (ebooks etc)
- sell other people's products – this is called affiliate marketing.
- provide an online service that people would pay for
- provide a subscription based service or content

I would suggest listing down stuff that you like doing. Then visit sites associated with that niche and ask yourself :

- How do the make money on that site – advertisement, services, subscription, products sales?
- Can you do the same or better?
- Can you provide the same from a different perspective?
- Can you produce something totally unique?
- Do you find certain questions being asked frequently in the forums related to that niche? Can you fill that void with a service or product?

Having said all that, you should know that EVERY opportunity you see on the Internet has it's own shortcomings but one thing NOBODY likes to tell you is that making money online is HARD WORK. But the rewards for those who can keep working at it is a lucrative residual income that could potentially last for years.

I gave you a long answer because when you ask a question like that, it's easy to get hundreds of affiliates trying to sell your their product in the hopes of securing a commissiion.

Personally, I publish a couple of websites on topics that I am interested in and I earn from a variety of ways – all of them listed above.

So my answer is that ANY thing is a good idea for an online business IF you're passionate about it.

Horaayy..there are 5 comment(s) for me so far ;)

Hi Kat:
It's not a good idea to start a site that hasn't been done before. You need to compete with the ones that service the traffic. In other words, without traffic you've got no business and no income. Do a better job than they do, or at least as good and you'll make tons.
You need to know What to market (sell), How to sell it and Where to sell it.
It's best to search your self for the answer to what business. Cause if your not passionate about it, it'll be like work.

More info in the article link below, have fun…

I have found an excellent online business opportunity in Personal Development Industry – training provided. Potential 6 figure income – real work with real profits. If you don't have to do any work then it is definitely too good to be true!

You can make money online by advertising products for such companies as Amazon.com and Wal-Mart. They will pay you a commission for driving sales to their site. There are literally thousands of companies that you can become an affiliate of. It does take some work to get started and the amount of money you can make is limited to how hard you work. Many people join an affiliate network to learn how to properly market products to make money. Many people use the Wealthy Affiliate network:

You might check this site out: http://earthptr.com/pages/index.php?refid=kanthony39us This is a PTR site (Paid To Read). You can join this for free and do not have to upgrade to member status if you don't want to, but if you do they will send you more ads per day to make more money. Once you sign up they will give you 6-10 ads per day that will pay various amounts up to $1.00 and you only have to have the ad open for 20 seconds. I joined as a member and I am getting 40-50 ads per day, so joining as a member is worth it if you have the $99 to do so but not necessary. Anyway for an online business that is free this is worth checking out.
